6 stepsAbout 12 minutesVerified 2026-07-22

Before you start

  • Verified customer and property
  • Known existing-system details
  • Takeover scope approved

You will finish with

  • A takeover-specific work order exists and the technician is prompted to document existing equipment.

Safety and data checks

  • Do not label a takeover as a new install; validation, equipment capture, warranty wording, and contract term differ.
Step-by-step procedure

Complete the task

  1. 1
    Enter information

    Check existing customer and system

Open the customer and property first, checking for an existing alarm system, account number, contract, or open takeover job.

  2. 2
    Select

    Start a takeover job

Open Work Orders, choose New Work Order, select Alarm, and choose Alarm takeover rather than new installation.

  3. 3
    Enter information

    Record known existing equipment

Enter available panel brand and model, keypad details, communicator, zones, account status, and access limitations without inventing unknown values.

  4. 4
    Enter information

    Define takeover scope

Describe what remains, what RedFlag Security will replace or reprogram, monitoring responsibilities, and any deferred signal-test condition.

  5. 5
    Verify

    Confirm takeover contract defaults

Verify the takeover monitoring agreement and intended term, fees, no-warranty wording, and start conditions before field work.

  6. 6
    Verify

    Review takeover-specific wizard

Open the created job and confirm the wizard asks the technician to document existing panel, keypads, zones, communication, and deferred exceptions.

If something does not look right

The expected button or field is not visible.

Confirm the record status, your role, and the selected tab; unavailable actions are often intentionally gated by those conditions.
